Ultraminiature stimulus-isolation probe

چکیده

The first two problems depend on the size and shape of the stimulus electrodes and the accessibility of the fibres to be stimulated, which determines the necessary current density of the stimulus current. The prevention of undesirable electrochemical electrode reactions can easily be controlled by measuring the stimulus-electrode potential during current flow (BERGVELD, 1976). The third problem, the prevention of a stimulus artefact, will be described in this paper. It appears that by using an optically coupled ultraminiature stimulation circuit built as a probe containing the actual stimulus electrodes, and also using a suitable configuration of the measuring electrodes, the stimulus artefact can be cancelled out completely.

Miniature grating for spectrally-encoded endoscopy.

Spectrally-encoded endoscopy (SEE) is an ultraminiature endoscopy technology that acquires high-definition images of internal organs through a sub-mm endoscopic probe. In SEE, a grating at the tip of the imaging optics diffracts the broadband light into multiple beams, where each beam with a distinctive wavelength is illuminated on a unique transverse location of the tissue. By encoding one tra...

Catheterization of pulmonary artery in rats with an ultraminiature catheter pressure transducer.

Utilizing new materials and miniaturization techniques, an ultraminiature catheter pressure transducer for catheterization of the pulmonary artery (PA) has been developed and applied in intact, spontaneously breathing, anesthetized rats. The catheter arrangement consists of three components: 1) an SPR-671 ultraminiature pressure transducer (measuring catheter), 2) a plastic introducer (sheath) ...

Ambiguous encoding of stimuli by primary sensory afferents causes a lack of independence in the perception of multiple stimulus attributes.

Accurate sensory perception often depends on the independent encoding and subsequent integration of multiple stimulus attributes. In the weakly electric fish Eigenmannia, P- and T-type primary afferent fibers are specialized for encoding the amplitude and phase, respectively, of electrosensory stimuli. We used a stimulus estimation technique to quantify the ability of P- and T-units to encode r...

Ultra-miniature, computationally efficient diffractive visual-bar-position sensor

We describe the design and performance of an ultraminiature lensless computational sensor optimized for estimating the one-dimensional position of visual bars. The sensor consists of a special-purpose wavelength-robust optical binary phase diffraction grating affixed to a CMOS photodetector array. This grating does not produce a traditional high-quality human interpretable image on the photodet...

Temporal distribution of attentional demands during a tennis serve

In the current research, the dual-task paradigm was used to examine the temporal distribution of attentional demands during a tennis serve. Twenty experienced tennis players to performed tennis serves. The participants were asked to respond verbally to an auditory tone presented at four probe positions (PPs) during tennis serves. The probe reaction time measure of attention was administered dur...
